Rubber Gym Flooring Technical Specifications

Rubber Gym Flooring Technical Specifications

This is the specification for every 1m × 1m rubber gym tile we sell, in plain black and black with white fleck, across the whole range (Rubber Gym Flooring, Heavy Duty Gym Flooring, Garage Gym Flooring, Horse Stable Mats and the White Fleck tiles are the same tile sold under different names). For choosing a thickness and working out quantities, see Which Flooring Thickness Do I Need and How Many Tiles?.

Specification common to every thickness

Specification by thickness

Thickness Approximate weight per tile Maximum recommended drop Size tolerance Approximate density
10mm About 9.5kg Up to 80kg ±1.5% (about 985 to 1015mm) About 950kg/m³
15mm About 13.5kg Up to 110kg 0.4 to 1% (about 990 to 1010mm) About 900kg/m³
20mm About 17.5kg Up to 140kg 0.4 to 1% (about 990 to 1010mm) About 875kg/m³
30mm About 26kg Up to 200kg 0.4 to 1% (about 990 to 1010mm) About 867kg/m³
40mm About 34kg Up to 260kg 0.4 to 1% (about 990 to 1010mm) About 850kg/m³

Maximum drop figures are a guide. The right thickness also depends on the subfloor, the drop height and how often weights are dropped. Tiles within the stated tolerance meet the specification; measure them soon after delivery and before cutting or gluing.

Figures we are asked for but do not hold

We quote hardness on the Shore A scale (about 65 Shore A). We do not hold a Shore C or Shore D figure, and the scales cannot be converted reliably, so we cannot give one.

We also do not hold tested figures for thermal resistance (R-value or tog), slip resistance (pendulum test value), acoustic or impact-sound reduction, or vehicle load. If a project needs one of these for a specification, tell us which figure and for which thickness and the team will check what the manufacturer can supply.

Technical data sheets

A data sheet per thickness is available on request. Contact us with the thickness you need and we will send it over.

Using the tiles outside a gym

  • Horse stables. The mats are the same dense SBR tile, used as a firm, slip-resistant layer over concrete under bedding. They are water resistant, not waterproof, and the joints are not sealed, so urine and wash-down water can get between and under them. Lift the mats regularly to clean and dry the floor underneath and do not leave them standing in liquid. Clean with water and a pH-neutral cleaner, not bleach or solvents. Stable and outdoor use are outside the warranty terms. A 3.6m × 3.6m (12ft × 12ft) stable is just under 13m², so allow 13 mats plus offcuts, or 16 to cut whole mats at the walls.

  • Garages. Lay straight onto a clean, dry, level concrete floor; no underlay is needed. Fill deep holes and sweep away grit first. Check the clearance under the garage door against the thickness you choose; most garage gyms stop the floor just inside the door and finish the edge with ramps so the door closes onto the concrete as before. We do not hold tested vehicle load figures, so we do not recommend the tiles as a driving or parking surface; if the garage is shared with a car, tile the training area only. Deal with any damp or water coming under the door before laying, and lift a tile occasionally to check the floor underneath.

  • Outdoors, carpet, vinyl, LVT, underfloor heating and other uses. See Laying Gym Flooring Over Carpet, LVT, Underfloor Heating or Outdoors.
