Thicker mats put more rubber between the concrete and whatever stands on it. Weight per mat rises with thickness, which matters when you lift them to clean underneath.
These mats are made as gym flooring and the thickness guidance is a starting point for yard use. Talk to us about your stable before ordering for a full yard.

Dense recycled rubber with a fine-granule surface gives a slip-resistant footing and takes the hardness and chill off a concrete stable floor. Order a sample to feel the material before you commit to a full stable.
Simple steps for a concrete stable floor, with the right method for your mat thickness.
Illustrative running-bond layout. Check actual dimensions and perimeter cuts on site.
Muck out, sweep and let the concrete dry. The floor should be clean, dry and level before the mats go down.
Lay full mats first with a half-mat offset so the joints don't line up. Fit them tightly so bedding has fewer gaps to work into, and leave the wall cuts until last.
10mm and 15mm mats have a lay-flat base and do not use plastic connectors. 20mm, 30mm and 40mm mats have a connector-ready base, which helps stop them moving. Connectors are sold separately.

Maximum drop figures are a guide: the right thickness also depends on the subfloor, drop height and how often weights are dropped. Check actual tile dimensions and dry lay before cutting.
They are dense recycled SBR rubber mats with a slip-resistant surface, and they are used as a firm layer over concrete under bedding. They are made and tested as gym flooring rather than as purpose-made equine matting, so check the details below against how your yard is run.
No. The mats are water resistant, not waterproof, and the joints between them are not sealed, so urine and wash-down water can get between and under them. Lift the mats regularly to clean and dry the floor underneath, and don't leave them standing in liquid.
Each mat covers 1 m². Multiply the length of the stable by its width in metres and round up: a 3.6 m × 3.6 m (12ft × 12ft) stable is just under 13 m², so allow 13 mats plus offcuts, or 16 if you would rather cut whole mats at the walls.
Sweep or brush the surface, then wash with water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid bleach, solvents and strong degreasers, which can damage the rubber. Let the mats and the floor dry before putting bedding back down.
The five-year limited warranty covers premature structural cracking caused by a manufacturing defect in normal indoor gym use. Stable and outdoor use are outside those terms. See the warranty terms.
No. Moulded rubber shrinks slightly as it cools, so each tile is a nominal 1 m × 1 m. Our 15mm, 20mm, 30mm and 40mm tiles are made to a tolerance of 0.4–1%, so a tile may measure about 990mm to 1010mm. Our 10mm tiles have a larger tolerance of ±1.5%.
Dry lay the floor first, rotate or swap tiles to tighten the joints, and leave perimeter cuts until last. A staggered brickwork layout helps hide small differences. Tiles within tolerance meet the product specification.
Yes. Use a sharp retractable knife and a straight edge, and change the blade often. Resting the tile on a length of wood under the cut line helps the cut open as you work. Thicker tiles take several passes.
Tiles are only made as 1 m × 1 m squares, so we can't supply custom sizes or cut them for you.
Usually not. Laid wall to wall on a clean, dry, level floor, the tiles are heavy enough to stay in place, and no underlay is needed over concrete.
Where an edge is left open, secure it with edge ramps or a suitable adhesive. 10mm and 15mm tiles don't take connectors, so adhesive is the way to add restraint.
Connectors are compatible with the 20mm, 30mm and 40mm tiles. The fitting guidance suggests approximately 3–4 connectors per tile, depending on layout. Edge ramps can help finish exposed edges; match them to your thickness. Explore fitting accessories.
Yes. Samples are 10cm × 10cm squares in the thickness and finish you choose. The sample is free and you pay £7.99 postage. Order a sample.
We supply the flooring only. Most customers lay it themselves: the tiles need no specialist tools, and the steps are shown above. For a larger project, a local floor fitter can install them, and our team can talk through quantities and access before you order.
Free delivery applies to UK mainland orders over £300. For smaller orders, the delivery cost is shown under the Add to basket button.
Heavier orders arrive on a pallet, usually on a vehicle of up to 7.5 tonnes. Delivery is to the kerbside on a solid, accessible surface, with someone present to receive it. The driver can't move a pallet over gravel, steps or steep slopes. If a large vehicle can't reach you, tell us when you order and we'll ask the courier for a smaller one. Read delivery terms.
Check the condition, fit and finish before cutting or installing. Eligibility, exclusions and return costs are explained in our returns policy.
The tiles carry a five-year limited warranty against premature structural cracking caused by a manufacturing defect in normal indoor gym use. See the warranty terms.
