Thickness guide

Choose for the way you train.

Start with your training style. Your subfloor, equipment and how you handle weights matter too.

These are starting points, not a guarantee for weight drops or sound isolation. For repeated drops, upstairs rooms or specialist spaces, talk to us about the floor underneath and your training.

Material & finish

A floor that feels ready for work.

A textured rubber surface and substantial construction give your room a purposeful training surface. Choose classic black or add contrast with white fleck. Get a feel for the material before you fit it.

Installation

A better floor starts with a good fit.

Simple steps, with the right method for your tile thickness and training space.

1 m0.5 m offset between rows

Illustrative running-bond layout. Check actual dimensions and perimeter cuts on site.

1

Prepare your space

Start with a clean, dry, level subfloor. Unpack your tiles and allow them to acclimatise before fitting.

2

Dry lay, then trim

Lay the main area first. A half-tile offset breaks up continuous joints. Check alignment and leave perimeter cuts until last.

3

Match the fitting to your thickness

10mm and 15mm tiles have a lay-flat base and do not use plastic connectors. 20mm, 30mm and 40mm tiles have a connector-ready base. Connectors are sold separately. A suitable adhesive may be needed for permanent installations or additional restraint.

Maximum drop figures are a guide: the right thickness also depends on the subfloor, drop height and how often weights are dropped. Check actual tile dimensions and dry lay before cutting.

Which thickness do I need?
  • 10mm: cardio equipment, benches and light free weights. Drops up to 80kg.
  • 15mm: general home gyms and moderate dumbbell training. Drops up to 110kg.
  • 20mm: free-weight areas, heavier dumbbells and general commercial use. Drops up to 140kg.
  • 30mm: heavy strength training, power racks and higher-impact lifting. Drops up to 200kg.
  • 40mm: Olympic lifting and repeated heavy use. Drops up to 260kg.

These are guide figures. The right thickness also depends on your subfloor, the drop height and how often weights are dropped.

Will every tile measure exactly 1 m?

No. Moulded rubber shrinks slightly as it cools, so each tile is a nominal 1 m × 1 m. Our 15mm, 20mm, 30mm and 40mm tiles are made to a tolerance of 0.4–1%, so a tile may measure about 990mm to 1010mm. Our 10mm tiles have a larger tolerance of ±1.5%.

Dry lay the floor first, rotate or swap tiles to tighten the joints, and leave perimeter cuts until last. A staggered brickwork layout helps hide small differences. Tiles within tolerance meet the product specification.

Can the tiles be cut to fit?

Yes. Use a sharp retractable knife and a straight edge, and change the blade often. Resting the tile on a length of wood under the cut line helps the cut open as you work. Thicker tiles take several passes.

Tiles are only made as 1 m × 1 m squares, so we can't supply custom sizes or cut them for you.

Do I need adhesive or underlay?

Usually not. Laid wall to wall on a clean, dry, level floor, the tiles are heavy enough to stay in place, and no underlay is needed over concrete.

Where an edge is left open, secure it with edge ramps or a suitable adhesive. 10mm and 15mm tiles don't take connectors, so adhesive is the way to add restraint.

Do I need connectors or edge ramps?

Connectors are compatible with the 20mm, 30mm and 40mm tiles. The fitting guidance suggests approximately 3–4 connectors per tile, depending on layout. Edge ramps can help finish exposed edges; match them to your thickness. Explore fitting accessories.

Can I lay the tiles over underfloor heating?

We don't hold tested thermal resistance (R-value or tog) figures for these tiles. Rubber is an insulator, so it will reduce the heat reaching the room. Please check with your heating designer or installer before ordering.

Can I use them outdoors or in a garage?

The tiles are made for indoor use. They suit garages, sheds and garden rooms with a dry, level floor.

We don't recommend laying them outdoors. They are water resistant, not waterproof, and sun and standing water will shorten their life. Outdoor use isn't covered by the warranty.

Can I see a sample first?

Yes. Samples are 10cm × 10cm squares in the thickness and finish you choose. The sample is free and you pay £7.99 postage. Order a sample.

Do you fit the flooring?

We supply the flooring only. Most customers lay it themselves: the tiles need no specialist tools, and the steps are shown above. For a larger project, a local floor fitter can install them, and our team can talk through quantities and access before you order.

How do I clean the tiles, and do they smell?

Vacuum or sweep with a soft brush, then damp mop with a flat microfibre mop and a pH-neutral cleaner made for rubber flooring. Avoid string mops and excess water, which can seep between the tiles, and don't use bleach, solvents or strong degreasers. See floor care products.

New tiles can have a mild rubber smell. It fades once they are unpacked and the room is ventilated.

Delivery & access

Free delivery applies to UK mainland orders over £300. For smaller orders, the delivery cost is shown under the Add to basket button.

Heavier orders arrive on a pallet, usually on a vehicle of up to 7.5 tonnes. Delivery is to the kerbside on a solid, accessible surface, with someone present to receive it. The driver can't move a pallet over gravel, steps or steep slopes. If a large vehicle can't reach you, tell us when you order and we'll ask the courier for a smaller one. Read delivery terms.

Returns & warranty

Check the condition, fit and finish before cutting or installing. Eligibility, exclusions and return costs are explained in our returns policy.

The tiles carry a five-year limited warranty against premature structural cracking caused by a manufacturing defect in normal indoor gym use. See the warranty terms.
